Leaders, learn how to use your body (center) to initiate a pattern and continue your connection through to the end of it. Followers, feel the benefits of waiting to be lead. This workshop will help you appreciate the methods and advantages of lead/follow.

2:45 - 3:30 PM    WORKSHOP #2, "Pivots in Closed Position - Smooth"

Pivots are dramatic and beautiful when danced correctly, but there is so much to learn! Do you know how to turn from the base? How to create and maintain the right-to-right connection? How to benefit from a well established axis? Learn these things and more to improve the look and feel of your pivots.


Potluck Dinner, Social, and Dancing 3:30 - 4:00 PM     Bring some food to share with your fellow dancers.


4:00 - 4:45 PM    WORKSHOP #3, "Samba Musicality, Knee Action, Samba Bounce"

Learn the secrets of samba bounce to energize your dancing and feel the perfect match of movement to the music. Body contractions and compressions, bending and straightening of the knees with a delayed transfer of weight, and pressure into the floor are only a few of the skills to be covered in this workshop.

4:45 - 5:30 PM    WORKSHOP #4, "Cha Cha Musicality, Knee Action, Walks"

Is your cha cha cheeky, flirtatious, and lively? After this workshop you'll be on your way to adding a new dimension to your cha cha through the correct use of the knees, and an enhanced understanding of cha cha timing.


1/2 Hour Dance Social 5:30 - 6:00 PM     Practice what you have learned in the workshops.

Intermediate lesson focusing on musicality, Tuesdays 7:45 - 8:30 PM. Appropriate for those who know some of the West Coast Swing basics, but everyone is welcome. Lessons are drop-in. Start any time.

West Coast Swing is a contemporary form of swing dance with its roots dating back to the 1930s. West Coast Swing combines swing dancing with R&B, funk, pop, jazz and blues. It is a casual, " street dance" with a broad appeal across all age groups. It is an extremely versatile dance.

Beginner Sampler Group Classes

Come and see what partner dancing is like...

Every Friday at 6:45 p.m and Sunday at 5:15 p.m.

These classes are designed for the novice who may not be able to commit to a weekly schedule, or the student who would like to experience a class (or several classes) before registering for a four-week semester.

The student who attends multiple weeks of beginner sampler classes will be exposed to the most popular partner dances. This enables the student to determine his/her area of interest and therefore assists in determining placement in the beginner level 1 classes (see below).

  • Each class is 45 min and $9.00 per person or 1 punch.

New Track System

NEW Track System

Starting with the Fall 2010 classes, the Queen City Ballroom will be implementing a new Track System that will replace some of the Group Classes now being offered. This student friendly system is an instructional program in American Style and Specialty dances that will appeal to new and experienced dancers alike.

With the Track System, the student

  • can make up missed classes
  • will be assured that all classes will run as scheduled with no risk of cancellations
  • will have the choice of studying a variety of dances or focusing on one dance at a time
  • may stagger his start dates and learn lots of material quickly by enrolling in multiple tracks
  • will have enrollment opportunities every other week instead of monthly
  • will have frequent opportunities to study an upbeat array of dances
  • can see his progress by looking over his student record at anytime

The Queen City Ballroom Teen Performance Team is designed to offer teens a place to unwind and make friendships, while learning ballroom dance, and social skills such as decorum, respect, and dignity. As a member of the Performance Team, the teen comes to weekly dance classes, learns a choreographed routine, and participates in the showcases. It's fun, great exercise, builds confidence and very affordable.

Private Lessons

Affordable, fun lessons for singles and couples of all ages

Private lessons offer the student the opportunity to progress along a personalized path to his or her goal. They are the perfect choice for many situations:

  • couples who want to prepare a special dance for their wedding
  • students who desire extra work on dance technique or a review of group class material
  • students whose schedules make it impossible to attend weekly group classes
  • students who prefer the private class setting to the group class setting

Private lessons are $50 per 45-minute session for one person or one couple. Investing in a package of five or more lessons qualifies the student for a discounted rate. Ask for details.

  • Additional bonus - Regardless of the number of private lessons you take per month, you will receive FREE admission to both Saturday parties.
