Karen Tebeau, Owner

Karen began studying social dance in 1978, and after taking some time off to focus on career and family, she returned to ballroom dancing and teaching in 1991. She has studied with Mark and Dawna Nocera, Dan Radler, and Suzanne Hamby. She has also participated in numerous seminars with other dance luminaries including Ian Gillet, Stephen Hillier, Michael Mead, and Edward Simon, among others.

Prior to opening her own business, Karen taught a social dance curriculum for studios in Boston and Cambridge, MA, and Amherst, NH. Karen has competed pro-am at ballroom dance competitions on the Maine and Massachusetts circuits. She is an Associate Organization Member of USABDA.

In addition to International and American Style Ballroom training, Karen's repertoire includes country western, west coast swing, lindy hop, hustle, salsa, and nightclub two-step. Karen's exposure to dance began as a youth, with a theatrical dance program under the direction of Mary Bertagna, former Radio City Music Hall Rockette.

Karen has been choreographing and producing showcases since 1996. Her work has been presented at five NH shopping malls as well as the Chestnut Hill Mall in MA, the Intown Manchester Buskers on the Bricks program, the Center of NH Senior Expo, the Palace Theatre's production of "Keyboard Lounge", the Bel Esprit Arts Festival, the Seacoast Classic, the Southern NH University Dance Club, NH Community Technical College, several local nursing homes, and various events sponsored by Queen City Ballroom.

Karen holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of New Hampshire. While she was attending the UNH she included some theatrical dance training as part of her studies.

Karen demonstrates longtime support of various nonprofit and charitable institutions through donations of dance lessons, and providing showcases for events. These include Emily's Place Shelter, The American Heart Association, The New Hampshire Coalition for Missing and Abused Children, The March of Dimes Special Olympics, Catholic Medical Center, Compassionate Connections Youth Mentoring Program, The Muscular Dystrophy Association, Child and Family Services, The Acting Loft Studio, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, and The Villa Augustina Charitable Corporation.

Karen is noted for her efforts to give back to the community. On a weekly basis, she allocates studio resources to support the Queen City Ballroom's Youth Dance Team, a tuition-free program designed to offer NH teens a place to unwind and make friendships, while learning ballroom dance, and social skills such as decorum, respect, and dignity.

Karen has one daughter, Nicki, who is also a ballroom dance instructor at Queen City Ballroom. When not on the dance floor, Karen enjoys reading, photography, yoga, and seaside vacations.

Ron Blankenstein, Instructor

Ron has been ballroom dancing for 11 years. He competed in the 2002 Seacoast Classic and won 1st place for Lindy Hop Team. Ron hosts the New Couples Parties at QCB several times a year and teaches the Concord Community Education Ballroom Dance Program through Queen City Ballroom. Ron has choreographed many showcase performances such as waltz, foxtrot, and rumba routines, as well as coaching a waltz team and participating as a member of the Lindy Hop team. Ron received his training from Karen Tebeau and continues today to study and train with her.

Apart from teaching ballroom, Ron works as the Special Assistant to the President at Granite State College in Concord, NH. Ron holds a B.S. in Health, Physical Education and Recreation from Plymouth State College in Plymouth, NH and a Master’s in Education in Guidance and Counseling from Plymouth State College.

Ron and his wife enjoy their two dogs, Willow and Anya, and their “home away from home” in Madison, NH. He loves cooking and eating the great food they prepare. Ron stays active in addition to dancing by walking the dogs, playing tennis, and snowshoeing.

Nadia Ezzat, Instructor

Nadia has been ballroom dancing for about 25 years. As a student, she competed in the Rhythm and Smooth categories. She has since studied with Karen Tebeau and Bill Morganti. Nadia co-teaches with her husband, Marc, the Merrimack Adult Education Ballroom Dance Program. You can also find Nadia teaching Bootcamps, various performance teams, and private lessons on site at QCB.

Nadia holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Suffolk University, a Graduate certificate in Health Administration from New Hampshire College, as well as a Paralegal certificate from Hesser College. When Nadia is not teaching or working as a paralegal, she stays active by walking and hiking, biking and traveling, and enjoys cooking for herself and others.

Tom Hesse, Instructor

Tom began ballroom dancing in 1981 and in 1984 began teaching for Arthur Murray Dance Studios. He was trained in Worcester, Massachusetts at Arthur Murray by Bonita Vanderzell, and also has been coached by Sam Sodano, Beverly Donahue, Kerry Wilson, Lola Valair, and other world class ballroom competitors and adjudicators. Tom has taught locally at the Worchester and Burlington Arthur Murray studios, as well as, Arthur Murray Dance Studios in Seattle, Federal Way and Bellevue, Washington. He has also taught and coached Adult Education Partner Dance Programs for Framingham, MA and Alexandria, VA.

Tom has participated as both an amateur and a professional in numerous dance competitions. For Queen City Ballroom, he teaches many dance series classes and the group sampler classes. He also teaches private lessons to all types of partner dances, and helps prepare students for different dance related occasions. Tom coaches and choreographs many of the QCB performance teams as well as being a performer himself while on the teams and as a solo act.

Tom has both an Associate’s and Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Management from the University of Maryland (European campus), and has performed Master’s of Education work with Boston University.

Ann Saba, Instructor & Administrative Assistant

Ann first began taking ballroom dancing lessons in 2003. Through her love of dancing she decided to become a dance instructor. She now teaches dancing at QCB and is a part of the Administrative Staff. She not only teaches ballroom but also has experience as a choreographer and aerobic instructor for Dance Aerobics at the YWCA. Ann is a member of the 2007 Queen City Ballroom Lindy Hop Team. She is known for her work with beginners and couples seeking wedding choreography.

Ann holds an Administration degree from Mass Bay Community College in Wellsley, Ma and maintains her regular full-time job in addition to the responsibilities she has with QCB. When she is not working or dancing, Ann enjoys spending time with her loved ones, which includes her two grown sons, singing, and reading.

Nicki Tebeau, Instructor

Nicki has 11 years of ballroom dance experience. She has also studied jazz, tap, ballet, hip hop, and lyrical dancing. She has trained with Karen Tebeau and Bill Morganti. Nicki has participated in various dance competitions such as the Yankee Classic, the Commonwealth Classic, and the Connecticut State Challenge. Nicki has been the instructor and choreographer for the QCB Teen Team in the past. Nicki also gives private lessons and choreographs many wedding dances.

Nicki attends Springfield College. In her free time from school and the dance studio, Nicki is a professional wrestler and she plays the French Horn.

Bonnie Eustace, Instructor

Bonnie has been ballroom dancing for 10 years. She has taken instruction from Karen Tebeau and Bill Morganti. She enjoys teaching private lessons and especially likes teaching new students.

Bonnie is an optical manager for an optometric office and has an A.S. degree in Ophthalmic Optics from Newbury College, Holliston, MA. When Bonnie is not working or dancing, she spends her free time kayaking on the ocean and cross-country skiing.

Marc Chouinard, Instructor

Marc has been ballroom dancing since 1997. He has trained in that time with Karen Tebeau and Bill Morganti. Marc especially enjoys Lindy hop and has participated in several Lindy hop performance teams over the years as well as teaching it himself. Marc currently co-teaches the Merrimack Adult Education Program with his wife, Nadia, through Queen City Ballroom.

When Marc is not at the studio in the evenings or on the weekends, he works full-time for United Healthcare as a Group Representative. He and his wife enjoy traveling and try to make time in their busy lives to do it whenever they can.

Amanda Walley, Instructor & Administrative Assistant

Amanda started taking dance lessons a few years ago and soon afterward joined the studio as part of the Administrative staff. She has had experience dancing on some of QCB’s many performance teams such as the Rumba, Cha Cha, Foxtrot, Swing, and Tango teams. Amanda has performed at The Executive Court in Manchester, Rockingham Ballroom, Hanover Hill Nursing Home, Steeplegate Mall, the Baby Boomer’s Expo, the Bel Esprit Arts Festival, and Southern New Hampshire University.

Amanda's love of dancing and working with others soon persuaded her to start training to become an instructor. In October 2007, she began assisting and training with Ron Blankenstein, who teaches the Concord Community Education Dance Program in Concord. Amanda is also currently the Assistant Instructor for the QCB Teen Team. After many months of dance training and instruction, Amanda is now taking on private lesson students as an Instructor for Queen City Ballroom.

Amanda holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, NH and an Associate’s in Business Administration from East Central Community College in Decatur, Mississippi. She will begin work on her Master's degree in 2008. In addition to maintaining her full-time career and working at QCB, she finds time to karoke, play tennis and volleyball, read, spend time with friends, and of course, dance often!

Henry Makie, Instructor

Henry has enjoyed ballroom dancing for 29 years. He has studied both International and American style Ballroom and Latin. He competed as an amateur for 8 years in the USA and Canada in Pro-Am and Amateur Categories through Silver Levels. He has studied instructor training with Karen Tebeau and Bill Morganti. Henry is the Founder of the New Hampshire Amateur Ballroom Dancers Association.

Henry teaches both private and group lessons. Henry also teaches Ballroom Dancing at Stonebridge Country Club.

Henry holds a B.S. from the University of Massachusetts and an MBA from Northwestern University. He works as a Sales Territory Manager for Diacom Corp in Amherst, NH.

When Henry is not working or dancing at QCB, he has enough family to keep him busy. With 2 grown children and 4 grandchildren in Kentucky and North Carolina, he makes time to travel often for visits. Henry also enjoys and stays active with activities such as golfing and kayaking as well as snow skiing and regular visits to the gym.

Mary Sheldon, Administrative Staff

Mary has been ballroom dancing since 1998. She also has a background in ballet, jazz, and square dancing. Mary works part-time as an administrative assistant for QCB, in addition to another job. She holds a BS in Statistics and Computer Science from the University of Delaware.

When she is not busy dancing, she enjoys activities such as hiking and backpacking, playing with her 3 dogs, camping, snowshoeing, yoga and tai ji, gardening, and biking.
